School Board member

Cheryl Massaro
"...not only is Courtney a mom whose children attend Flagler Schools, but she is a Flagler alumnus with hands-on Flagler Schools teaching experience...she worked daily with high school youth to help them navigate very challenging and important years of their lives. Today, she remains steadfast in ensuring all Flagler youth receive the education and supports they deserve and need to be successful. Additionally, she is familiar with school policies, procedures, and operational standards and also possesses an awareness of the annual budgeting process. Most importantly it is obvious to me that Courtney is a team player who willingly shares her thoughts and experience with other team members in order to seek the best solution for all Flagler students, their families, and community members. During the election cycle, no one has worked harder and more diligently to earn the District 2 School Board seat. Courtney's experience, professionalism, openness, willingness to listen to others' views, and complete transparency sets her far above her opponent. I am asking each of you to make the right choice when you place your vote for the current school board vacancy to help the Flagler School Board focus on academic excellence. Please join me in supporting and voting for Courtney VandeBunte for Flagler School Board, District 2.

From my perspective, what is impressive about Courtney’s qualifications is that she exhibits strong leadership traits, is an experienced educator, and is a skillful communicator. Another area that impresses me about Courtney is her work with STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math). I share her passion as STEM is at the core of my Teens-In-Flight program syllabus and the fact that she is employed by my alma mater, Harvard University.

Our choice is between Courtney VandeBunte, a qualified, fair-minded professional, and a candidate whose own lack of qualifications makes him resort to lies and fear, proudly brandishing his allegiance to state and national pressure groups more concerned with a political agenda than addressing the needs of our students. If Flagler County hopes to succeed in the future, retain our talented young adults as residents and attract businesses that employ well-educated and motivated people, we need a school system run by qualified, locally elected leaders like Courtney VandeBunte.

"I endorse Courtney VandeBunte for Flagler County School Board, District 2.

The bottom line is this: We want "A" schools.  We want "A" schools for our children to get the best education possible. We want "A" schools to preserve and enhance our property values.  We want "A" schools to develop our future workforce. We want "A" schools to preserve our quality of life.

VandeBunte is an accomplished educator.  She has been a teacher in the classrooms and was recognized as a Teacher of the Year. She has worked in administration.  She was instrumental in developing the Classroom to Careers program while serving as a teacher at i3 Academy.

She has dedicated her professional career to education with her current position in curriculum development for Harvard University’s LabXchange science education platform for K-12 students.

VandeBunte knows that a quality school environment provides the best opportunity for students to learn.  VandeBunte has focused on educational issues throughout her campaign — not the noise and distractions of social issues.

Colonel Jack Howell, P.h.D, Retired USMC says:

"As a retired US Marine Corps Colonel, a Senior Executive Fellow and graduate of the John F. Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University, and a former elected City Council Member, City of Palm Coast, I think that qualifies me to make a comment or two about leadership and the upcoming Flagler County School Board election. I have done my research and due diligence on this matter. Therefore, I wholeheartedly support Courtney VandeBunte for Flagler County School Board District 2.

From my perspective, what is impressive about Courtney’s qualifications is that she exhibits strong leadership traits, is an experienced educator, and is a skillful communicator. As an educator, Courtney has spent time in the classroom and was recognized by her peers for her exemplary teaching skills, thus being named “Teacher of the Year.” That’s a big deal! I know! I was recognized as a “Teacher of the Year” twice during my high school teaching days in Duval County. Another area that impresses me about Courtney is her work with STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math). I share her passion as STEM is at the core of my Teens-In-Flight program syllabus. The fact that she is employed by my alma mater Harvard.

I don’t want to see politics, divisiveness, and a lack of appreciation for our teachers in a school board. Just because you’re a parent doesn’t mean you are qualified to be a school board member. As a parent, I fully participated in PTA meetings, chaperoned school trips, and supported classroom activities while my children were school-aged. I don’t see mention of this by others seeking election to the school board!

The bottom line is that if you want the best candidate for the Flagler County School Board, you need to vote for Courtney VandeBunte. She is the most qualified for the position. I give you my word!"

Bob Cuff, Lawyer and Former Palm Coast City Councilman

I am happy to endorse Courtney VandeBunte for Flagler County School Board. We are fortunate to have the opportunity to elect an educator who will represent ALL students, parents, educators, and residents of our community. With the many challenges facing our school system, we need a person of Courtney’s professional accomplishments, Teacher of the Year to name just one, and the ability to understand what is required to prepare our students for a successful future. As important as her professional background, she has demonstrated her ability to listen to all
constituents and make decisions that truly support and advance our entire school system. This election highlights, as never before, the need for local control of our schools to ensure that they are truly responsive to the needs of our community.
Our choice is between Courtney VandeBunte, a qualified, fair-minded professional, and a candidate whose own lack of qualifications makes him resort to lies and fear, proudly brandishing his allegiance to state and national pressure groups more concerned with a political agenda than addressing the needs of
our students. If Flagler County hopes to succeed in the future, retain our talented young adults as residents and attract businesses that employ well-educated and motivated people, we need a school system run by qualified, locally elected leaders like Courtney Vandebunte. I urge all Flagler County voters to make this decision a vote for better education by electing Courtney VandeBunte."

Suzie Johnston, Flagler Beach Mayor & daughter of Suzanne Johnston, Flagler County Tax Collector, says:

“I’ve known Courtney since she was a little girl growing up in Flagler County. Courtney has always shown an interest in helping others, which is why it was not surprising that she became an educator. Her experience as a student and teacher right here in Flagler county is invaluable and just one of the reasons why I’m endorsing her for School Board, District 2.

Courtney is the best choice for the school board to lead this district in the right direction. She will not only advocate for all students and families needs in a considerate and respectful way but will also help our teachers and staff when the state is experiencing shortages which only hurts our kids.

Courtney will follow and uphold important school board policies and ensure that everything is being done to protect our students while providing them with an A+ educational experience. She will work with and listen to all families regardless of party affiliation and help Flagler continue to progress in the right direction.”

Lynette Shott, Former Deputy Superintendent for Flagler Schools says:

"Courtney has a great passion for her community as a whole and of course, the children and families served by the Flagler School system.   Courtney was always such a positive asset.  Her thoughtful approach to problem-solving, calm demeanor, respectful belief in her colleagues, and ability to see the big picture made her a strong teacher and will serve her well as a public servant."

Brun Hudson, President of Flagler Educational Support Staff Professionals Association says:

"As President of FESPA, representing over 800 Education Staff Professionals working in Flagler County Schools. It is my honor and privilege to announce that FESPA is endorsing Courtney VandeBunte for School Board, District 2. "Miss V is the epitome of what a teacher should be. She built positive relationships with not just my son, but with all her students. She allowed them their independence and encouraged them to succeed beyond what they believed they could. She gave them the confidence to be decision-makers and independent thinkers. Courtney VandeBunte has always been intuitively connected to the development, and most importantly success of our young people. I endorse her for the School Board and believe she will bring a much-needed fresh and innovative perspective to the board and for all students in Flagler County.”

"Courtney VandeBunte was Ms. Green when I first walked into my freshman year of high school Biology class 10 some-odd years ago. I really admired her as such a knowledgeable and confident female figure who was able to communicate the course material in an effective and relatable way. I am very grateful to have had Mrs. VandeBunte as a positive influence. Now, as an Environmental Specialist, I look back with thanks and recognition toward Mrs. VandeBunte as one of the integral role models that helped shape the woman in science that I am today."
